Saturday Night Cards

Last night after the little one was in bed I decided to fire up a few MTT. I really haven't had a chance to play many online tournaments the last couple of months and it was enjoyable to get back to the tables.

Here's what I played and how I fared:

(1) $5 Turbo on Ultimate Bet. These turbo tournaments are quick and fun, but the 5 minute blinds are probably -EV.

I was all-in preflop against 99 right around bubble time. He turns his 9 and I'm done.

(2) $20 Turbo + rebuys on PokerStars. This was a qualifier to the 700K guaranteed on Sunday.

I'm sitting okay after the add-on and basically get blinded off.

(3) $22 on Full Tilt. This was a guaranteed tournament, maybe 12K?

Once again it's good shape after the first break and approaching the second break. Then the cards fail to show and the big stacks push enough that I have very few chances to steal.

(4) $40 on Ultimate Bet.

My big hands hold up and I make the right reads for a small cash.

(5) $5 + rebuys Zombie Massacre on PokerRoom. This is a fun little event where an extra 10K is divided among the top 10 players that collect the most bounties (forcing someone to re-buy counts).

I get nothing for cards early and cannot take advantage of the all-in orgy, so much for splitting the 10K. After the add-on period ends I settle down and play some excellent poker eventually finishing 40ish out of 1000 players. It ended up being a small cash.

So 40% cash last night leaves me pretty pleased. I think when everything was totaled I ended up slightly down though. doh!

Yes, It's Wednesday

At least the blogger tournament was a relatively short one for me. I busted out just before the first break somewhere between 1000 – 1100th place. Tripling up early put me in good shape, but it was not to be. Congratulations to all the winners, especially Chris Halverson and Bobby Bracelet!

I was joking with Iggy the other day about how I was corrupting Little Royal. She turns two in just over a month and it’s incredible how fast kids learn things at this age. Of course Dad isn’t content with his daughter knowing just the usual crap. Here’s a few of the nuggets she has somehow picked-up.

· The ability to recognize poker on TV and very clearly let us know that they’re playing “poker chips.”

· She knows virtually every character in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and has a solid understanding of what is going on. For example, she knows that Shadowfax is Gandalf’s horse.

· You can show her a $1, $5, $10, or $20 bill and she’ll tell you that it’s Washington, Lincoln, Hamilton, or Jackson. We’re still working on the $50 and $100.

· She obviously knows what a bird is, but more importantly she can recognize a cardinal. For now red is even her favorite color.

· We don’t quite have the differences between baseball and football down…at this point they’re both football. Hey, that’s a start!

It has always been enjoyable to watch her learn new things and now it’s really starting to get fun.

There are so many incredible things to share with her and it’s a challenge to wait on the things she just is not quite ready for yet.

Blogger Tournament Today

Good luck to everyone at the Online Poker Blogger Championship today. That 24" Dell LCD would sure look nice sitting on my desk next to the existing one!

-----

AI and I went over to a friend's house last night for a couple of tournaments.

First tournament we have 11 people. I'm in third place with a decent stack when my AK runs into A8 and a rivered 8. Eventually I climb back to the chip lead by knocking out two players in back to back hands with QQ and 88. I hold onto the chip lead for an eventual win.

Second tournament we have 9 people. During the first orbit 77 calls my huge over-raise with AQ and I'm down to $4 from the starting $100. 30 minutes later I'm near the lead with over $200 in chips. Then my KK runs into AT for a crippling blow. I bubble out, but staked Dozer who eventually gets 2nd.

Third tournament we had 7...I think. The keg starts taking over and everything is fuzzy. I did not cash.

Afterwards we join the rest of the drunks at Little Chef for some breakfast. I'm sure the food was scary. It always is...

Do or Die

Somehow the cards have to find a way to get runners on base for Pujols. This series has been everything I thought it would be except 2-2. :)

Party Changes

I guess when I was reading through the changes to Party Poker I missed the part about them upping the table limit to 10. Of course I'm 80% through my bonus when I finally realize that important detail. I fire up another 4 tables and my bonus is cleared in no time.

Like everyone else I'm very interested to see how the Party Network split will affect the smaller sites. Empire still has 7,000+ people on, but a quick glance at game selection left me feeling sick. It can't be too long before Empire hooks into Noble. Also, the 10 table maximum is currently only available at Party. Everyone else is still stuck at 4.

I love Party Poker!

The Cards look to make it 2-0 tonight with Mulder vs. Oswalt. Even through the Cards were never behind last night the game was very close. It's going to be another great series just like last year!

Tuesday night I finished 3rd of 25 in the weekly league. This league continues to be by far the most fun poker I play on a regular basis. The monthly game continues to be monotonous. For some reason the weekly league always has a little extra spark.

The Party Poker Bad Beat Jackpot is currently above $253,000. Sit down and take a shot!

Party Reload / B-day Fun / 3-0 Cards

I started knocking out the Party reload on Friday. I only put about an hour into it which leaves me with 600 hands to play by next Friday.

-----

Yesterday we celebrated Hyper's birthday. I stopped by his place around 7:30 PM and the usual crowd was there. We had a few beers, some dessert and played a little NL Hold 'em. It was a very loose fun game.

Then we packed up and headed out to the bowling alley for a few games. My team won game one and collected our free shot bounty. Games two and three saw me losing side action to Hyper. Damn splits in the 9th frame!

Next on the agenda was a trip to the bowling alley arcade. We played a bunch of pinball and no one managed to win a free game.

-----

I get home about 1:00 and thankfully the Cardinals game is still on...sigh. WTF is up with an 11:07 PM EST start time?

Once again the cards jump on the Padres early, let things get interesting late, then finally close the deal.

Bring on the Braves / Astros!

The new Sufjan Stevens album is very good.

SOX: White > Red

That White Sox are officially back on a role and the rest of the AL better watch out. First they sweep a surging Cleveland team to end the season and now they sweep the defending champs.

Good for them --- and F the Red Sox. :)

-----

As I write this the Big Unit has given up a 3-run-homer in the first and the Yanks are down 3-0 through one. I still ultimately think the Yanks will pull this out, but I'm cheering for the Angels.

-----

Absolute Poker gave me a free $10 due to my absence at their site. I sat down at a $25 NL table and lost it in two hands. First my AK runs into A5 and a runner runner flush with AK on the board. I maybe should have played that one faster. Then my slow played KK runs into a flopped set of Hiltons. No getting away from that one.

2-0 Cards

The Cards keep doing what they need to win. One more victory before the NLCS!

-----

There have been some interesting posts on Deadspin as of late about a possible Kenny Chesney / Peyton Manning relationship.

Why is it that almost all NFL quarterbacks are gay? Kordell Stewart, Troy Aikman, Donovan "Butter" McNabb and now Peyton Manning? I hear the colts already have their eye on Deuce Staley as a potential replacement next year for Edge. Apparently Peyton and Donovan have been "talking".

Rene Zellweger really should have stuck with that "fraud" Jack White.

MLB Playoffs

The Astros are busting up the Braves to complete the first round of games in the division series. Here's how I see things going:

Cards over Padres
Astros over Braves

I see both of these match-ups being uneventful.

Yanks over Angels
Sox, Red over Sox, White

The White Sox have the best team in the AL, maybe even the majors, for a 162 game season. I just don't think they are as solid as the Red Sox or Yanks in a short series though. I wouldn't be surprised by any result in the AL match-ups.

Cards over Astros

This will be another great series just like last year. Even with the emergence of Ensberg the Astros will really miss the best player in last year's playoffs (Beltran). Carpenter was hurt last year and is the best picture in the playoffs this year.

Yanks over Red Sox

They won't blow it this year thanks to the Unit.

Cards over Yanks

The two winningest teams in World Series history put on quite a show with St. Louis taking it down in seven.

Bet365Poker Reload

Bet365poker is having another reload bonus in October. For every 50 qualifying raked hands you get $10, up to a maximum of $100. You must be playing at least $1/$2 Limit or $0.50/$1 PL / NL for a hand to count.

500 raked hands will get you $100 for a very nice 5x bonus. There is no deposit required so if you already have cash in your account all you need to do is play the hands. You will need to email support when you complete the bonus. I've always had pretty good response from their support.

This site is Prima so you know the low limit games will be soft!

Here's a direct link to the T&C.

Still Kicking

Just a quick note to let everyone know that yes I'm still alive. Both work and family have taken priority the last couple of months and there hasn't been much time for poker. I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of live play with Season 4 of our weekly league now underway.

We just returned from a visit to St. Louis where we saw one of the last regular season games in Busch Stadium. Albert Pujols hit a grand slam and the Cardinals swept the Reds...damn was that fine!
