Quick Softball Update

Just finished a true double header (against the same team). After some sloppy defense we managed to pull out the first game 19-11. In game 2 we never got the offense rolling and only scored 2 runs...ouch. Oh yeah, we won! 2-0.

Shutouts are pretty damn rare in Slow Pitch Beer League Softball, but for the 2nd consecutive year we pulled one off. I think we turned 4 or 5 double plays including two line drive-double-off-first plays to me at 3rd. So we're now 6-1 and likely still in 2nd place.

Last weekend was Joe's (Hyper) wedding. Congrats again buddy! Most of the wedding party stayed at a lake cabin which was sweet. We played a bunch of poker...even getting a game going upstairs during the reception. Several people got in trouble due to that particular game. You know who you are!

I finished slightly up in prop bets with A.I. We had a bet on which bridesmaid would cry during the wedding. Of course none of them did. We also were betting one which side (bride or groom) the next arriving party would be seated before the wedding. Apparently our antics (and flying money) attracted the attention of the bride's father who was pretty amused. We also had a bet on whether the kiss would be typical or humorous. I went typical and won that bet!

Our last bet of the night was and over / under on how many kisses would be forced by the typical glass clanging. I went under, but the bride stiffed us with some no glass clanging you must tell a story to force a kiss BS. I think there were a whole 3 stories....dammit...all that just to screw our bet up! :)

WSOP: The UIGEA Impact

Just a quick post on this with expansion in the future. Most people, myself included, figured that the UIGEA would cause a noticeable drop in WSOP attendance this year. So far that does not appear to be the entire story.

WSOP 2006: Event #2 - $1500 NLHE - 2776 entries
WSOP 2007: Event #3 - $1500 NLHE - 2998 entries

WSOP 2006: Event #3 - $1500 PLHE - 1101 entries
WSOP 2007: Event #4 - $1500 PLHE - 781 entries

WSOP 2006: Event #4 - $1500 LHE - 1068 entries
WSOP 2007: Event #6 - $1500 LHE - 910 entries

WSOP 2006: Event #8 - $2000 O8 - 670 entries
WSOP 2007: Event #9 - $1500 O8 - 690 entries

The first NLHE event was the highest number of entires for a non-main event WSOP tournament. Events 4 and 6 were off their 2006 marks, but remember this year many events are starting on the same day. Most players had to choose between Event #4 (PLHE) or Event #5 (PLO / Stud8 Mix) since they started on the same day.

So what does this mean for the Main Event? One would think there has to be a drop with online sites not able to directly register players. Heck, I think I'd take the $11,000 cash vs. playing the ME! Maybe that drop will not be as significant as some of us once thought.

Poker continues to be a juggernaut...
