Happy Birthday Royal Poker
Just a short belated birthday note to mark the 4th anniversary of this here blog. Wow, has it really been 4 years?
I'm currently preoccupied with collecting raked hands for this silly Carbon Poker (poker.com) scavenger hunt. For those in the loop I need just under 19K CPs to reach my goal. More on this unique promotion, goal recap, etc. when December is over. By this time tomorrow I will have played ~30,000 ring game hands and 1000s of SnG hands in six days. I hate poker...

Merry Christmas!
We're leaving the relatives today and flying back home. Please don't stick us in an airport with two restless kids for too long. One time airlines, one time!

Medical Myths
We're visiting family for the next few days doing the Christmas thing. Mom had to take the daughter into Urgent Care since she wasn't acting normal...strep throat it is.
I saw this posting on Yahoo and thought it was interesting:
LONDON (Reuters) - Reading in dim light won't damage your eyes, you don't need eight glasses of water a day to stay healthy and shaving your legs won't make the hair grow back faster.
These well-worn theories are among seven "medical myths" exposed in a paper published Friday in the British Medical Journal, which traditionally carries light-hearted features in its Christmas edition. Two U.S. researchers took seven common beliefs and searched the archives for evidence to support them.
Despite frequent mentions in the popular press of the need to drink eight glasses of water, they found no scientific basis for the claim.
The complete lack of evidence has been recorded in a study published the American Journal of Psychology, they said.
The other six "myths" are:
* Reading in dim light ruins your eyesight
The majority of eye experts believe it is unlikely to do any permanent damage, but it may make you squint, blink more and have trouble focusing, the researchers said.
* Shaving makes hair grow back faster or coarser
It has no effect on the thickness or rate of hair regrowth, studies say. But stubble lacks the finer taper of unshaven hair, giving the impression of coarseness.
* Eating turkey makes you drowsy
It does contain an amino acid called tryptophan that is involved in sleep and mood control. But turkey has no more of the acid than chicken or minced beef. Eating lots of food and drink at Christmas are probably the real cause of sleepiness.
* We use only 10 percent of our brains
This myth arose as early as 1907 but imaging shows no area of the brain is silent or completely inactive.
* Hair and fingernails continue to grow after death
This idea may stem from ghoulish novels. The researchers said the skin dries out and retracts after death, giving the appearance of longer hair or nails.
* Mobile phones are dangerous in hospitals
Despite widespread concerns, studies have found minimal interference with medical equipment.
The research was conducted by Aaron Carroll, an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Regenstrief Institute, Indianapolis, and Rachel Vreeman, fellow in children's health services research at Indiana University School of Medicine.

The End is Near
The end of 2007 that is. As we approach the end of the year we're also nearing the four year anniversary of this here blog. Woohoo! err I mean W00t! Look for a summary of 2007 non-goals and what to expect for 2008.
It sounds like the bloggers had a typical fun Vegas trip. Yeah, I'm jealous and you all suck. :)
I played the Friday Donkament last night for some therapeutic fun. As I said post bust, the best $16 I spent all week. It took 13 hands of all-in at the start of the tournament to get a stack. Post break I was in 3rd or 4th of 18 with the top 3 getting the cash. The rest of my tournaments were mostly done, the beer was kicking in and the Mrs. was heading to bed. It took 7 consecutive all-ins post break to finally bust.
I was also playing a $5 6-max SnG at the time and after folding the first two hands decided to move in every hand until I busted. 10 hands later I won the stupid thing. The entire SnG lasted 12 flippin hands. Yes, the table was slightly on tilt.
Tonight we're doing the family Christmas thing since we're visiting family next week. The kids are jazzed and it should be a fun evening. Good luck to those playing the local monthly tournament tonight!

More Cheating Drama
So go ahead and fade those last picks...
Wicked Chops Poker does a good job of summarizing the most recent online poker cheating scandal involving Sorel "Imper1um" Mizzi and Chris "BluffMagCV" Vaughn. Vaughn won fame a month ago for winning both the Stars and Full Tilt Sunday majors in a two week span. It now appears that Mizzi (or someone with Mizzi's IP address) took over for Vaughn in the late stages of the Full Tilt tournament.
So how does Bluff play this one? If true is there anyway Vaughn should be allowed to keep his job?
And as part of the drama Mizzi outed online pro Andy McLEOD as being only 16-years-old. His tournament results have been removed from PocketFives where he has apparently been banned.
